Keep Your Sofa Looking Brand New – UK Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
A quality sofa is an investment, and with the right care it can look great for years. Whether you have a fabric sofa or a leather sofa, here’s everything you need to know about keeping it clean and well-maintained.
How to Clean a Fabric Sofa
Regular maintenance:
- Vacuum your fabric sofa UK weekly using an upholstery attachment to remove dust and crumbs
- Rotate and fluff cushions regularly to maintain their shape
- Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent fading
Removing stains:
- Act quickly — blot (don’t rub) spills immediately with a clean cloth
- Use a mild fabric cleaner or a mixture of washing-up liquid and warm water
- Always test any cleaning solution on a hidden area first
Our most popular fabric sofas include the Lilly Grey Fabric Corner Sofa with Footstool — built with premium upholstery that’s easy to maintain.
How to Clean a Leather Sofa
Regular maintenance:
- Wipe down your leather sofa UK with a soft, damp cloth weekly
- Apply a leather conditioner every 6–12 months to prevent cracking
- Keep away from radiators and direct heat sources
Removing stains:
- Wipe spills immediately with a dry cloth
- Use a specialist leather cleaner for stubborn marks
- Never use household cleaning products — they can damage the leather
Our bestselling leather sofas include the Florida Leather 3+2 Sofa Suite and the Nova Leather Electric Recliner Corner Sofa — both crafted from premium easy-clean leather.
Caring for Recliner Sofas
If you own a recliner sofa UK, regularly check the reclining mechanism and wipe down the moving parts. Avoid placing objects under the footrest when reclining. Browse our recliner sofa buying guide for more care tips.
General Sofa Care Tips
- Avoid sitting on the arms of your sofa — this can weaken the frame over time
- Use throws and cushion covers to protect high-use areas
- Check and tighten any screws or fixings periodically
